Project Work 

For my first topic I could use this question: Choose a reading selection. Explore the relationship between elements of the selection. For example: how does setting influence character development?   With this question I would use the poetry from Anna Akhmatova and explain how her poetry was influenced very much by the setting she was in at the time. She was writing during the second World War and inner country many things were going wrong for her family and she points this out specifically in her poetry. Anna's husband and son were arrested and her friends were thrown into prison camps to die. Further into the poetry we understand the character is not specified but Anna is though to be the character she is focusing on central but truly the character is a grieving mother that is only separated from the other mothers because of her poetic skill. 

For my second topic I could use the question: How does the work reflect the period in which it was written?  With this question I could use the same poem and then just look at how doe Anna's poetry reflect on the time she was in. I would say it reflected pain and a sense of helplessness since her family and friends were being either killed or locked in prison and her government was the one doing it. 

For a final topic I could use the question: How are class differences presented in the work? Are characters aware or unaware of the economic and social forces that affect their lives?  In using this question I could talk about a lot especially since the economic factors of war and the social forces of her country leading the war cared nothing about their citizens and had harsh rules for them also. For example in the introduction of Anna it explains how she had to at a time suppress her books because "they didn't fit the government approval of literature" and also in1921 her ex husband was executed by the government because of his "Counterrevolutionary activities" and that clearly shows the dictatorship Anna was under and her poetry expresses this.

My first topic could be about the author William Blake's work and pulling themes and meaning from his poems to compare and contrast with the poems of author Walt Whitman. Both have literature that takes time to understand the true meaning but at the same time they used this type of inscription to talk to readers who took the time to dive into their work more profoundly. I would use the first topic choice of course to compare and contrast the elements of two different text. Looking at the poems "The Little Black Boy" Or "The Lamb" from William Blake and "O, Captain! My Captain!" from Walt Whitman.

My second topic I could use the text I could use for my project is the "Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, An American Slave" and using the text to take on the topic of how does this story teach us about a time or place differently than a history book. This narrative would be perfect for a topic like this especially since Fredrick Douglass was such an interesting story to read even as a younger child so writing about what his story teaches us would extremely enjoyable. Especially since in the history books they lie because white english people most likely wrote our history to make them look like hero's and not monsters but this narrative is history I actually can believe in. 

For a final topic I could use the text from the author Percy Bysshe Shelly and how he used his poetry to paint a picture as it does on his "Ode to the West" poem. This poem was laced with imagery and I could just use this poem and compare and contrast the elements with another story or poem and explain the ways they do this well and the things they do differently in writing.

Oroonoko or, the Royal Slave

• I appreciate that this story is written giving awareness to what actually was going on at that time. Innocent black men being taken from their homes by greedy white men. 
• I don't appreciate that she is a white women talking from this perspective because she is making a book about what is really going on at her time but doing nothing about it. 
• Also she is white so how does she know so much about a african prince to even do a book on the Prince's experience in slavery. 
• She might have know about the business side of this trade because her people where the one doing the horrific act but how could she possible even fictional write what a actual slave was going through. I just feel its a little inconsiderate but in her time probably was just seen as a great book to read for fun even though the acts explained in the book were real life things.

• This is a very interesting topic because even though her story was inconsiderate it did put black people in a positive light despite the time period she wrote it in. The Prince was a leader and she wrote that he lead a revolt with his own people against slave owners showing the royalty he had in his blood to have people follow him even if it would end in death
