Oroonoko or, the Royal Slave

• I appreciate that this story is written giving awareness to what actually was going on at that time. Innocent black men being taken from their homes by greedy white men. 
• I don't appreciate that she is a white women talking from this perspective because she is making a book about what is really going on at her time but doing nothing about it. 
• Also she is white so how does she know so much about a african prince to even do a book on the Prince's experience in slavery. 
• She might have know about the business side of this trade because her people where the one doing the horrific act but how could she possible even fictional write what a actual slave was going through. I just feel its a little inconsiderate but in her time probably was just seen as a great book to read for fun even though the acts explained in the book were real life things.

• This is a very interesting topic because even though her story was inconsiderate it did put black people in a positive light despite the time period she wrote it in. The Prince was a leader and she wrote that he lead a revolt with his own people against slave owners showing the royalty he had in his blood to have people follow him even if it would end in death

The Difference between Praise and Feedback

In this article I read it opened my eyes to a bunch of new ideas and ways to think. Although at the moment I don't have any children this article I can use with my younger family and for my future children. I see in ways myself in this article from the child perspective but instead my mother did more of telling me that even though I did well in school I always could do better. I wish I was like these children where everything they do no matter how bad or good they get the praising response from their parent. Instead my feedback was more of the kind this article is saying children actually need. In the article they are challenging parents to show children more attention and to actually give them useful feed back like, "You made a great touchdown today. How long did it take you to get that route down in order to lose your defender." And not feedback like, "Great touchdown you're the best wide reciever on the team". The difference between those two sentences of feedback is the first sentence is actually praising the effort or strategy your child put into his route running. While the second one is less of a process they can actually grow from but a comment that makes them think I have no room for improvement and there's not a lot I can do to get better if my Dad or Mom already said I am the best. I understand the difference and will be sure to apply this to my everyday life and in the future with my children and in my education. This type of feedback will help me allow others to grow and actually show them I care with true feedback. 

Week3 Analysis : Ch'Un-Hyang

"The Song of Ch'Un-Hyang" was one of the more interesting readings I had this week and it was a part of a performance script. Although one part that absolutely caught my eye while doing my readings. When Ch'Un-Hyand was beaten and with each stroke that she was given she weeped loudly short poems. This style of writing first made me notice this specific part of text and it just stands out from the rest of the structure of writing. The author gave every stroke she was given their own column, also this helped me understand how important this part was. It was a cruel act that was commanded to happen from the governor since Ch'Un-Hyang didn't let him have his way with her. Even though she was already a married women but he didn't care and order her to be beat. In this part of the story the theme of the strength of Ch'Un-Hyang and how she was able to withstand the strokes she was given because off the thought of bring faithful to her husband. For example on pg. 84 " Two spouses are faithful, Two husbands there cannot be: Through my body i die forever, I'll never forget master Yi". This quote shows how committed Ch'Un-Hyang so being beaten unlawfully was horrible but she was strong in remembering her husband. Also this shows how much love Ch'Un-Hyang  had for her husband and not even letting a man in power make her unfaithful. This performance brings back thoughts of a time like this in reality to where women had few rights. Ch'Un-Hyang did nothing wrong but say no to the governor in a polite way and still she was beaten and publicly humiliated. After a total of twenty-five strokes given to her she was left covered with blood and bathing in her own tears. On the other hand I respect Ch'Un-Hyang for the unfailing loyalty she had to her husband and by taking those strokes basically for him. She didn't let anyone come in the way of her marriage and that is true love.

Week#3 

• pg. 74- This particular song of Ch'Un-Hyang is the most famous traditional work of Korea. A narrative that is widely performed, and an interesting story of romantic love, heroism, and fidelity. 
• pg.74- This song traced it's roots to shaman songs, folktales, and folksongs. P'ansori drama is the main component of the performances and they are so similar to Ancient Greek epic poetry in performing styles. 
• "P'ansori has always been a communal act." To Korea this performance was part of their culture so they faithfully had performances and didn't change the setting like more Western influenced places. 
• pg. 75The song of Ch'Un-Hyang came from the eighteen century. And the first know piece of long poetry in Chinese style dates back to 1754. 
• This type of story has also been told in many genres not only used with the p'ansori.
• I can relate to the part of the performance where their was dialogue and then the actor just bust out into song. On pg. 80 this happens it isn't my favorite part but if the song is really good I enjoy it. 
• On pg. 84-85 this type of writing style is unique how the author structured it beautifully. It was like a group of poverty monologues put into two pages as the character pour his heart out in this part of the performance. 
• Also on pg. 87-88 the text gives another long section for the character Ch'Un-Hyang and her metaphors and imagery in his poems are something I take note of and aspire to be like.

• On pg. 144 - the story starts and it gives us some incite and information at the bottom about the play so we could understand what was going on. For example the meaning of the french verb meaning to cheat or deceive. 
• Also on the same pg.- it in forms readers that the character Madame Pernelle who was a mother in law usually was played by a male which I'm guessing for a comedic element. 
• From reading the first few pages - I see that the characters have a lot to say each time they talk I could imagine it was difficult remembering lines in this age of time. Also I can see the character "Madame Pernelle" is very blunt or frank as she would say every time she opens her mouth. She is also very rude to her extended family through marriage. 
• I enjoy the references to the bible like on pg. 148 - where the older mean lady is talking and she talks about the tower of babel and uses it to describe the people of the town gossiping. 
• The French Scenes - On pg. 148 they also introduce us to the term and how declares when there is a new scene in the play. 
• On pg. 151- it talks about Bloodletting and how for centuries that people used this for standard medical treatment. And it could be done by using leeches or other means. 
• This whole reading is like a big drama having me see the same genres today, in the past where still a go to for entertainment 
• I also see many references to God and the bible just showing where society was at in this time of this play. And showing the language they used in everyday speech and conversation. 
• The laws in this play was very strict and not giving those who committed crimes a way out.
